What do our customers say....
"The
Red Mic Type B modular microphone system is amazing! The rugged housing
accepts an impressive variety of interchangeable capsules, all emulating
hard to get and very expensive classic vintage microphones. My favorite
so far is the B6 capsule (AKG C12 comparable) - myself and a couple
of other engineers actually picked it over a vintage C12 in blindfold
vocal A/B test recently! By changing the capsules I am able to use the
same mic on different instruments and vocalists, and all that for the
price of an average single purpose condenser mic! Keep up the good work
Red, I can't wait to try some of the other capsules!"

"The
Red Type B modular mic system is ALMOST too good to be true. When comparing
to unnamed, expensive vintage microphone, the Red exhibited qualities
that were more desirable than our vintage counterpart. Smoother sounding
in the 2-5K region and a more present and fuller, yet tight sounding
bottom. Add to that a great selection of interchangeable capsules and
a price point that is much more affordable than a vintage classic, and
you have a "can't miss" microphone that is a must for any
size studio!"

"I
want to let you know that I finally found time last evening to
try my new Red Type B / Red Lollipop mic and all I can say is that is
sounds absolutely MARVELOUS! It is so smooth and balanced sounding that
it gave me goose bumps. Until now, the top-tier mics in my studio's
mic closet has had 3 distinguished members: a Neumann U87, a Neumann
TLM103 and a Soundelux U97. Well, the top-tier just got a new member
to their "elite" club -- my new Red Type B"

"I
used the Red Type B with a B7 capsule on an upcoming release by the
San Francisco based band “Built for the Sea”. This band
uses a lot of acoustic instruments so it was a great project to put
the Type B/B7 through its paces. I had great results with this mic on
pretty much everything. It’s really versatile and with the option
to add different flavors with the interchangeable capsules you really
can’t go wrong. I used the Type B on vocals, acoustic guitar,
piano, drums/room mic and was very pleased with the results. I was having
some harsh top end on an acoustic guitar that this mic could really
smooth out in a musical way without being too dark. It worked like a
charm on drums as a room mic through a Daking Mic Pre/EQ – detailed
but very meaty. Yum. It also paired well on vocals with a Great River
MP-2NV. Smooth. The type B and the Daking Mic Pre/EQ on a cranked up
mini-amp.(guitar & vocals) had nice color for miles. I haven’t
even mentioned how cool it looks. It looks like a piece of art. My students
at both Women’s Audio Mission and City College of San Francisco
were very intrigued. I had a lot of fun using this mic. Now I need to
shop for more capsules! B0 – Elam 251 capsule here I come!"

“I
picked up the Red Microphone, along with the BO and B7 cap… What
a find! We were beginning to record the acoustic guitar tracks on our
new album, Barefoot Servants 2*, and I used them in the control room with
my Martin’s, Sheerhorn Squareneck and Taylor’s. I also used
it on our singer-guitarist Jon Butcher with his trusty Kay, Martin and
Taylor acoustics. What a sound! The Red Mic was so open, full and with
a transparent airiness. I found that the B7 had a touch more bottom. But
overall, both worked great.
I would make my choice of capsule based on the instrument’s guitar
wood types (Spruce, Indian or Brazilian Rosewood, Red Cedar), and body
size (00, 000, Baby, Dreadnaught, or Concert), in conjunction with my
choice of tube or class-A transistor mic pre.
This mic/cap combo is
definitely my first choice to record acoustic guitars every time. I’ve
used it on all my recordings so far, and will continue to use it on
all future projects"

"My
name is Randy LaMora and I have had a small home studio working mainly
with singer song writers for the last 10 years. I have tried many things
to improve the sound over the time, new pre amps new recorders new reverb
and new eq and room treatment and they all helped and I thought I was
getting a very good sound and it seemed to make people happy, and then
after reading a review in Tape Op on the Red type B I purchased it and
a B7 capsule and the improvement was not subtle and it was not pretty
good it was nothing short of absolutely amazing, words like clarity
and open and detail mean nothing until you try a mic of this quality.
I work mainly on weekends and when people started playing CDs done here
for other people my bookings picked up and now I am busy every weekend
for the next two months. I love this mic. Enclosed are a couple photos
Kyra Camp a third generation acoustic musican from the Twin Cities cutting
vocal tracks with a Type B and a cmv 563. It was on Gillian Welch tune
that is part of a cd that we are sending to soliders in Iraq. We all
agreed that the Type B was better sounding (it was close) so we used
the vocal cut with it. She is 9 and her band is called the Pink Flower
Band, It includes me and a guy called Matt Muller."

"I
purchased the Type B in the hopes that it could meet my demands for a
high-performing, versatile microphone that would sound great in front
of a variety of sound sources. The Type B has risen to the challenge.
It loves everything my studio throws at it! It has a crisp and articulated
sound, with a lot of sonic beef to give the "oomph" that many
tracks need.
It excels with vocals, giving
voices a lot of presence and clarity while retaining the force of projection.
Electric guitars and keyboards have bite and punch, acoustic instruments
sound warm, rich, and detailed. Drums have an excellent high-end response
with this mic, and used as a room mic, there is a wonderful sense of space
and atmosphere that highlights otherwise-forgotten nuances of performances.
Overall, this microphone
tears through applications with ease, and adds a distinct and not-unpleasant
flavor to recordings. It has become a "go to" mic for many recording
sessions, and I can't wait to get my hands on some more capsules to really
take advantage of the versatility this mic is capable of."

"I
already have a large selection of Blue Microphones and other classics,
but the Red body with Lollipop capsule has moved right into the front
rank. Very clean, warm with a sweet midrange and high end, sounds fantastic
on every vocalist I've tried it on, fiddle, mandolin, and steel guitar.
I usually use two mics to get the acoustic guitar sound I'm after, but
just putting the Red up where the fingerboard joins the neck gives one
of the best, most well-rounded acoustic sounds I've ever heard. Fantastic
microphone... I'll be getting another soon!"

I'll
try to keep this short. I am probably one of Red's most enthusiastic users.
More precisely, I LOVE the Red Mic .
My studio (Iron
Lung Recording http://www.ironlungrecords.com/id13.html) is a small project
facility with some decent gear.
I was pretty intrigued
with the Red mic when i t was released. Given that it was affordable,
flexible and something I could use with my Bottle Caps, I got one right
away.
The Red mic, with the stock capsule, is a different beast than the most
of the mics in my locker . This IS the mic that can be used on any source.
The stock capsule doesn't seem to have the personality of the other
mics . It is very neutral. With a clean preamp, this mic is excellent
at capturing the source as you would hear it with only your ears.
When working with a new
vocalist, I used to reach for a U87 or other mic. There aren't too many
vocalists these mics wouldn't flatter. But for pure realism of capturing
the voice, the Red is great right out of the box. No eq. No compression.
Just a good pre into the recorder. If I absolutely need a different
mic, I can always swap out the capsule with a B0, B6 or B7 and find
what I'm looking for.
The Red mic is an excellent
acoustic guitar mic as well. I used to use 2 mics to get a full sound.
Now I just use the Red. Depending on the guitar, between the soundhole
and the 12th fret is where I usually put it.
Great on percussion, great on strings, horns, electric guitars. Everything.
I'm not giving up any of my other mics. They are great tools. My Red
mic is, however, the mic that seems to be getting the most use these
days.
